How to stay motivated at work during the Summer...
Summertime is always welcomed with open arms after a cold
winter and a rainy spring, and all we want to do is make the most of it whilst
it lasts. If you’re stuck in the office during this beautiful time of year, you
might find yourself daydreaming more and working less. While you probably have
a summer holiday booked, you still have to be at work for the rest of the
season. It can be hard to stay on task, especially since summer is usually the
slowest time of the year for most businesses, so it’s important to keep
yourself motivated and productive at work.
1. Plan Sunshine Breaks
During the winter season it is common that a lot of us
choose not to go out for a walk during our working day. However, now that the
weather is brightening up, plan some time to get outside and soak up the sun! A
mid-day walk can help reinvigorate you for the rest of the day, helping refresh
your mind and bring back that motivation.
2. Stay Hydrated
Drinking water is a great health habit to have, and it’s
always important to drink plenty of it. But staying hydrated during the summer
can help you stay motivated because toxins are released from your body giving
you more energy for the day ahead.
3. Set Up Goals
Making a daily list where you outline everything you have to
accomplish for the day can help direct your thought process away from the sunny
weather and towards your work. Highlight the important tasks and prioritise these
for the day by setting up a time frame for each one. It’s much easier to stay
motivated if you have a game plan ahead of time.
4. Get Rid of Distractions
We all have little things that distract us during the day
such as checking your personal phone, social media and emails. The last thing
you want to see is your Facebook friend posting pictures of their fabulous
holiday abroad whilst you’re sat at your desk. So if you know these things will
distract you, try removing them from your sight – for example, log out of your
social media sites and close the tabs, or place your phone in a side drawer
until you finish your important tasks.
5. Dress the Part
While dress codes vary from office to office, business casual
is always a safe bet to wear at work. You should still wear clothing suitable
for summer — light materials and brighter colours are acceptable in the office
— but maintain a sense of professionalism in your appearance. If your outfit
makes you feel like a professional, you’ll be more inclined to focus on your
work instead of your weekend plans outside.
6. Stay On Task and Keep Your Focus
Work doesn’t stop just because it’s summer. You can still
have a productive day despite the beautiful weather. Keep your focus on the
work you need to get done and take breaks as needed. As long as you keep that
up, you can stay motivated during the slow summer months.
