Five Ways To Make Your Day At Work A Better One
We spend a huge portion of our lives at work and sometimes we forget the simplest things to do on a daily basis to guarantee having a productive day. Because so much of our lives are spent at work, a huge deciding factor in our well-being is whether or not we enjoy work life.
So here are 5 tips on how to make sure your day at the office is a decent one:
1. Eat breakfast
– Studies show that eating a healthy breakfast can provide you with more vitamins and minerals, sharper concentration and performance in everyday tasks, improve strength and endurance, and lower cholesterol –
As we all know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast provides you with the energy and nutrients that lead to increased concentration in the workplace which is why you shouldn’t skip it! The worst thing to happen whilst you’re sitting at your desk in work is for your stomach to start rumbling, so make sure you fill up before starting your day. Choosing a healthy breakfast including fruits also comes in handy because they contain fibre, which keeps you fuller and satisfied for longer. The energy you gain from eating breakfast also leaves you feeling positive and fresh, and this will benefit your work progress during the entire day!
2. Be organised
Organisation is the key to getting through your workload in a steady and do-able pace. You can’t add hours to the day so make sure you use your time wisely and manage your time effectively. You aren’t expected to work non-stop for the entire day so create a plan of what you intend on producing for that day. Having countless tasks to do all at once just causes distress and then suddenly you’re dealing with a painful migraine (Yep, we’ve all been there!) So making a work plan will support you through the hours of work and this is always beneficial for yourself and for the people around you. Take a few moments to also make your work environment pleasant to work in as this will help reduce stress.
3. Use your break wisely!
We are all given a break during a good day of work, and we are given it for a reason so why not use it wisely? Going for a walk outside or even around the workplace itself will benefit you a lot more than sitting at your desk or in your office. This will reboot your system in preparation for the remaining hours of hard work.
– A recent survey commissioned by BBC Breakfast in 2013 found the situation to be worse than you think, with 54% of people working through their lunch hour and 53% believing there to be a widespread culture of their colleagues doing the same –
Failing to refresh your system will eventually drain your brain and affect your work productivity and we don’t want that now, do we? So grab a healthy bite to eat and go and explore your surroundings.
4. Communicate with your colleagues
Surrounding yourself in an environment where gratitude’s and stories are exchanged will not only help YOU during the day, but it’ll cause a butterfly effect in the workplace creating positivity! This will not only have an impact on your colleagues, but it’ll also impact the way they see you as a person.
– In a survey done by Virgin Pulse, it was found that 66 percent said their relationships with colleagues positively impacted their focus and productivity at work and 55 percent said these relationships positively impacted stress levels on the job –
5. Smile
A positive attitude goes a long way, especially if you are surrounded by other colleagues. Wearing a smile simply presents a positive image towards yourself leaving you feeling happy, which will be reflected in your work productivity. Sometimes all that another colleague needs to see is a smile, so why not be that friendly and supportive person everyone likes in the office?!
